A rare cotton trade cloth, made in India for the Indonesian market. Hand-drawn and block-printed mordant and resist-dyed, c. mid-19th Century or earlier. Excellent condition: complete, vibrant colors, three tiny patches (one about 2.5 inches, two finger-nail sized), see photos. Meticulously cared for over the generations as befits a prized heritage cloth. At each end on the back there is an embroidered letter or cypher (possibly "B") and a small round stamp (hard to make out or photograph), see images. There also seems to be signature or short inscription at one end, possibly in Tamil.
