Antique Sindh shawl

All-over embroidery of floss silk on a fine silk ground (not cotton).  54 x 84 inches.

c. mid-19th Century or earlier.

An outstanding early example, with thousands of small flowers covering the entire body, and large flowers on the ends.

Stunning vibrant colors, including a deep indigo blue, and virtually no wear.  Hand-sewn center seam.

Condition is near-excellent, with minor losses at the corners;  otherwise no holes or stains.

(These shawls are usually on a cotton ground with no center seam; this is a particularly old and fine one.)
