Angora Goat Long Pile Filikli Rug
Angora Goat Long Pile Filikli Rug
Share
Very long Angora goat (mohair) pile on a wool foundation. The Angora fleece has not been spun into yarn (as in most rugs), but was dyed and then knotted directly onto the foundation, resulting in a supremely lustrous and superbly soft pile. The foundation itself was woven with sheep wool available to the hand of the domestic weaver, showing a variety of colors in almost random arrangement. The back is as interesting as the front. Made in Konya, Turkey / Turkiye circa 1940s-50s. Size: 3' 7" x 5' 5".
This is a fiber art textile as much as a rug, and looks stunning on a wall as well as feeling luxurious under bare feet.
